  1. The Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) Act 2016 [Act 775] was enforced on August 1, 2016, whereby sections 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 42, 43, 44 , 45, 46, 47, 60 and 61 and subsections 63 (1) and (3) of the Act came into operation.

      2. Registration of T&CM practitioners:

  1. Local T&CM practitioners:

        Registration of local T&CM practitioners with the T&CM Council will be conducted in phases and will commence on a date to be determined in due course. For the time being, no applications for  registration with the Council will be processed.

      b. Foreign T&CM practitioners:

For the time being, applications of supporting letters for foreign T&CM practitioners will continue as usual. However, beginning 1st August 2016, requirements 3.5 and 4.1 of the Application Guideline for Foreign T&CM Practitioners will no longer be applicable until further notice. For applications submitted to the T&CM Division before 1st August 2016, the applicant is required to meet all relevant requirements as given in the guideline.

      3.The first T&CM Council meeting was held on January 16, 2017. The meeting was chaired by the Director General of Health as Chairman of the Council.

  1. The Council currently comprises three (3) representatives of the Ministry of Health (MOH), two (2) representatives from local universities with expertise in T&CM and five (5) individuals who have sufficient experience and expertise in the relevant industry.
  2. The meeting highlighted the importance of regulating T&CM practices and practitioners based on criteria that emphasises on the safety, efficacy and quality of treatments and practices.
  3. Other matters raised at the council meeting include the meeting procedure, terms of reference for Secretary of the Council, determination of recognised practice areas and designated practitioner bodies based on the recognised practice areas.
