Average annual growth rates of trade in medicinal plants

The average annual growth rates of import and export values of medicinal plants for the three decades are as shown in Table 19. The annual growth rates of imports were always found to be higher than exports for the 1970s, 1980s and the millennium era (2000 to 2006) but not in the 1990s. Although the value of exports of medicinal plants is lower than imports in the 1990s, growth rates are found to be fast as the industry attempted to diversify its products into the global market. However, the average growth rates of export value (0.08%) are smaller again compared to imports (4.8%) in the last six years (2000 and 2006).
