Abstract

The paper will present the data on cinnamon from medical and pharmacological literature of Classical Antiquity (5th cent. B.C. to 3rd cent. A.D.) in order to make possible an evaluation of ancient knowledge. Ancient texts will be studied in the original language (Greek and Latin). Plants and diseases will be identified in collaboration with specialists of the relevant disciplines. When properly interpreted, ancient data appear to provide a good basis for a pharmacological validation.
