Abstract

In June 2007, the speaker undertook a market research study for the Malaysian Herbal Corporation (MHC) on natural products and markets of interest to Malaysia entitled “The Market for Malaysian Natural Ingredients used in Cosmetic-, Dietary Supplement- and Pharmaceutical Products.” Mr. Josef Brinckmann will make a presentation on the main findings of the market study including information on market size, market access, economic variables affecting demand and supply, and the main supplying and buying countries, with a focus on market prospects for selected traditional Malaysian medicinal plants and extracts in the European and North American markets. For nearly 30 years, Mr. Brinckmann has worked in the trade of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAP) and presently serves as Vice President of Research and Development for Traditional Medicinals (California, USA). Since 2002 he has also served as a Consultant on Market Intelligence for Medicinal Plants and Extracts for the International Trade Centre (ITC) of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Mr. Brinckmann is an Advisory Board member of the American Botanical Council (ABC), an Advisory Committee member of the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), and a member of the Dietary Supplements Expert Committee of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
