Abstract

Three resveratrol tetramers, (-)-hemsleyanol D (1), (-)-hopeaphenol (2) and (+)-isohopeaphenol (3), were successfully isolated for the first time from the stem bark of Shorea brunnescens acetone extract. The structures have been identified based on spectroscopic data of UV, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR as well as by comparison with the reported data. Cytotoxicity assay of the three resveratrol tetramers on the murine leukemia P-388 cells showed that they had IC50 of 85.0, 5.5 and 36.0 µg/ml, respectively.
