Abstract

Phytochemical study on the alkaloidal constituents of the Malaysian Popowia perakensis King has been carried out. From the bark of P. perakensis, six alkaloids were isolated and identified as atherospermidine (1), liriodenine (2), lanuginosine (3), anonaine (4), norstephalagine (5) and asimilobine (6). The isolation of the alkaloids was achieved by chromatographic techniques and the structural elucidations were performed using various spectroscopic methods mainly 1D and 2D NMR.
