Abstract

The chemistry ofAglaiahas been extensively investigated and most of the research done on these plants focused on their effects as insecticides, antifeedants, growth inhibitors and cytotoxic agents. In continuation of our research on the chemistry ofAglaia, we have initiated a chemical study on the dichloromethane and hexane extracts of the bark ofAglaia lanuginose. Three known dammarane triterpene ocotillone (1), cabraleone (2), ocotillol (3) and two known secodammarane triterpenes, shoreic acid (4) and eichlerianic acid (5) were isolated from the bark extract of Aglaia lanuginose King. The structures were established on the basis of extensive use of NMR spectroscopic methods (1H-NMR,13C-NMR, COSY, NOESY, HMBC, and HMQC) as well as mass spectrometry.
