Abstract

Introduction: Egypt has a long and eminent history in agriculture. Domestication of wild animals and plants have been promoted along centuries of cultivation trials and primitive breeding programs. The natural course of evolution has also contributes. The global interest in genetic resources conservation in the last two decades has had its impact on Egyptian efforts in this respect. Field collections, advanced breeding programs, implementing of new technologies, preservation of genetic materials and a proposed gene bank are the main components of the national efforts of genetic resources conservation in Egypt.
