Abstract

The antitumor avtivity of goniothalamin in suppressing the growth of hormone dependent DMBA-induced rat mammary tumor was evaluated and compared with tamoxifen. Goniothalamin (2, 10 and 5Omg/kg) and tamoksifen (2 and lOmg/kg) treatment 6 days a week for 4 weeks caused a significant inhibition of tumor growth compared to control (p<0.01). Overall goniothalamin was more superior than tamoxifen in inhibiting the growth of the tumor. Goniothalamin, lOmg/kg was most potent for producing 33% complete remmision of tumor and whereas 2mg/kg tamoxifen (the potent dose) only caused  11.1%  complete remission.
