Abstract

Altholactone exhibited an antiproliferative effect, inhibiting the proliferation of the hormone-dependent breast cancer cells, MCF-7 and T47D. The proliferation of hormone-independent breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) were not inhibited by altholactone. The effectiveness of altholactone seems to be dependent on the growth medium condition; medium containing FCS treated with dextran-coated charcoal (DCC-FCS) and non-treated FCS (FCS). Altholactone showed better inhibition on the proliferation of breast cancer cells in growth medium supplemented with DCC-FCS, compared to non-treated FCS.
