Abstract

The polar fraction of Phyllanthus amarus was dominated by ellagitannins with the dihydrohexahydroxydiphenoyl (DHHDP) constitution. The two principal constituents were geraniin and amariin which can satisfactorily account for most of the structural variation of the hydrolysable tannins encountered in the plant extract.
