Abstract

Leaves of Emblica officinalis were extracted with ten different solvents (n-hexane, diethylether, methanol, tetrahydrofuran, acetic acid, dichloromethane, 1,4-dioxane. toluene. Chloroform, water). Methanol. tetrahydrofuran and 1,4-dioxane extracts were potent inhibitors of human polymorphornuclear leukocyte migration (50 µg/ml causing ca 90 % inhibition). Diethylether extract inhibited leukotriene B4 production in polymorphornuclear leukocytes as well as thromboxane B2, synthesis in platelets during clotting (50 µg/ml;  causing ca 50 and 40 % inhibition, respectively).
