Abstract

In the rat vas deferens, of the seven new compounds isolated from medicinal plants, dicentrine , isocorydine and usnic acid inhibited both noradrenaline - induced contractions and KCl-induced contractions; probably by inhibiting intracellular Ca++ release to the contractile elements. Isocorydine and usnic acid but not dicentrine and techtochrysin may cause inhibition via mediation of cGMP. Atranorine, goniothalamin and isoaltholactone, on the other hand, enhanced the noradrenaline-induced contractions. In the rat uterus, usnic acid, techtochrysin and isocorydine were very potent inhibitor of the spontaneous contractions.
