Abstract

In Hong Kong, the Chinese Medicine Ordinance was passed by the Legislative Council in July 1999 to regulate the practice, use, trading and manufacture of Chinese medicine.  The Ordinance stipulates a system involving registration, examination and discipline, to regulate the practice of Chinese medicine practitioners.  This system protects the rights and health of patients; upholds the professional standards and conduct of Chinese medicine practitioners; and hence establishes the statutory professional status of Chinese medicine practitioners in Hong Kong.
