Abstract

Introduction: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one serious social problem which affects the development of a child to a great extent.  According to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics, for every 800 newborn children, there will be one suffering from this sickness, which amounts to about 1.25% - 1.6% annually.


But so far, there has not been any effective treatment for this sickness in western practice, thus resulting in heavy burdens to the society.


For a child suffering from ADHD, his or her intellectual level can be close to normal or even normal, but they can have different degrees of behavior abnormality such as hyperactivity, poor attention and concentration, lack of patience, stubborn, poor tempered, etc.


In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), patients are characterized based on their clinical  syndromes under “五迟, 五软Atrophy”、“痴呆Dementia 、 智障Mental Retardation, etc. There are four sets of needles used for treating ADHD and combination of TCM Herbal Medicine.


Conclusion: There has been an exhaustive amount of experiment, as well as many years of clinical practices that the benefits of the above mentioned treatments were seen as many of these ADHD children become more attentive after treatment. With combination of Acupuncture and TCM Medication treatment, it will improving the condition of an ADHD child.
