Abstract

Classically Ayurveda Formulations are divided into 10 main types. All the types have their own variations. As the herbs can be broadly divided into water soluble, fat soluble and alcohol soluble the preparations are formulated accordingly. Where ever there is easy accessibility, Fresh juices are used for treatments as they are easy to digest and pure. In places where the plants are not easily available, their dried parts are preserved and used for making decoctions. Decoctions are more powerful compared to fresh juices. Depending on the condition, certain formulations may be needed for external application. Here the oils, ointments, ghee and powders are helpful. For Rejuvenation and preventive therapy the medicated jams are very beneficial. Except the fresh juices and powders all others have a good shelf life. Fresh juices need to be consumed immediately and powders have a shelf life of six months.
