Legal Requirements, Customs Duty and Import Regulations

Products imported into Malaysia were governed by a number of laws, regulations and standards. The purpose was to ensure customer safety, to protect the environment and control of other risk factors. The importer would be responsible for compliance with the legislation and consequently the importer would require from suppliers that products met these requirements. The Food Act 1983 and Food Regulation 1985 would be referred to for compliance in assessing imported materials. For import duty and sales tax, importers may refer to the Royal Customs and Excise Department Regulations before product is brought into the country.
