Abstract

Studies on the ethnobotany of mangrove forests in Sabah were conducted in two localities namely in Manumbok Forest Reserve in Beaufort and in Tawau Forest Reserve in Tawau District. Interviews with the local villagers living around the mangroves were conducted and two 20 m x 20 m temporary plots were also established in each district to see the pattern use of plants among the villagers. The results of these studies showed that not less than 70% of the plants species found in mangroves are used by the local communities living around the mangroves. Types of plants used are also presented.
