Abstract

Three cultivars of Psidium guajava Linn. (Myrtaceae) were studied on their chemical constituents. These cultivars were physically different in terms of their fruit size and presence of seeds. In this study, the chemical constituents of the cultivars were investigated for any difference by using HPLC and colorimetric analysis. The HPLC method was developed for the assessment of any difference in the chemical profiles of the cultivars. The concentration of two isolated flavonoids, quercetine and guiajavarin, in the cultivars was also analysed. The total flavonoid content was determined by using the colorimetric method and was measured with UV spectrophotometer. The results are presented here.
