Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the effect of the leaves of Ficus deltoidea Jack (Mas Cotek) on fasting blood sugar, renal and lipid profile of Type II diabetic patients. This study was carried out at the Polyclinic Balok, Kuantan, Pahang. The selected patients were divided into two groups of ten each. Inclusion criteria were registered as diabetic patient in the health centre diagnosed as Type II diabetes mellitus for more than one year, at age of 18 years and above, HbAlc more than 6.5% and had contactable telephone number. Intervention group had been given orally 350 mg of Ficus deltoidea twice daily and monitored every 20 days for two months. In conclusion, the effect on fasting blood sugar, HbA1C, renal and lipid profiles were not significant. Intervention group felt more energetic and fresh compared to control.
