Training Therapy

Homeopathic Medicine

Level Of Training

Undergraduate

Qualification Awarded

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours Degree in Homeopathy in Practice

Duration Of Training

2 years

Entry Requirements

Only for registered homeopathic practitioners

All applicants must be new or established professionals in health, social care or CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) fields.

They must also produce evidence that they have completed the equivalent of the first 2 years (or levels) of a degree – technically considered to be 240 Credits (120 Level 1 and 120 Level 2 higher education Credits).

Typical entry routes are as follows:

  1. A Health or Social Care Diploma (e.g. Nursing, Midwifery, Social Work).
  2. Any Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) or the first 2 years of any undergraduate degree programme. Note that the 240 Credits or equivalent could be come from a non-professional course – e.g. Business HND – in which case the applicant must have completed some additional professional training in Health, Social Care or CAM fields.
  3. A registered Homeopath or Acupuncturist whose training has the equivalent of 240 Credits (e.g. a 3-5 year professional training) or who has 240 Credits or equivalent from another course.
  4. Other CAM professionals who have undertaken single therapy training courses that are degree equivalent – e.g. Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Medical Herbalism.
  5. Professionals who are also lecturers in Health, Social Care or CAM fields who provide evidence of at least 500 hours of delivery of degree level or equivalent programmes and who have taught at this level for at least 3 years.
  6. Accreditation for Prior Experience and Learning (APEL). Many potential applicants may not meet the above requirements but could still provide evidence of extensive relevant experience or study. The APEL process can enable you to use this experience and learning for entry.

Please Note: It is not the total hours of study that determines entry but the level of those hours. Therefore it is not possible to offer entry to applicants who have undertaken many short courses in CAM but who have not undertaken training in any extended single therapy.

*Requirements for international students not specified.

Learning Module

The degree comprises a number of themes:

Evidence Based Research

The more structured Evidence Based Research 1 & 2 modules are for those with a less extensive research skills background. For those with more research skills, the Dissertation or Community Project is available. The Dissertation offers the possibility of undertaking a small, formal research study while the Community Project involves undertaking an in-depth evaluation of a work based setting.

Reflective Practice

Option modules to develop your existing practice with a module format largely based on independent study and occasional small group and individual tutorials. These modules offer a range of possibilities and may be used to incorporate ongoing professional Continual Professional Development (CPD) requirements or training into the degree:

The theoretical basis of a candidate’s existing professional practice or the evidence base of new practice skills you are currently acquiring can be explored.

An in-depth case analysis can be undertaken.

The process of developing an existing practice or service or establishing a new practice or service may be analysed.

Professional Practice

Modules that explore topics relevant to professional practice include: Supervision, Current Issues in Integrated Practice, and Critical Insight.

Graduate Pathways

On completion, graduates can pursue post-graduate level courses.

Career Opportunities
