2.3.3.2 Analysis
The plant’s barks and flowers need to be processed before the product is to be ready to be used. Imports of this item were mainly utilized by the food industry or for its medicinal value. The total values imported reach its peak in year 2003 amounting to RM1.1109 million with a correspondingly quantity of 300,745 kg. These values increased at the initial stage but declined after year 2003. The probable causes for the receding demand for the product may be due to high unit cost and the availability of alternative raw material for the same uses. The highest unit cost per kg for the product was in year 2005 at RM20.98.
