3.6.20.2 Analysis
Sandal wood chips are used for its fragrances in the form of essential oils, powder and sticks and they are also used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. The quantities exported from this country were irregular during the observed period from year 2000 to 2007 increasing and decreasing unpredictably. The maximum amount traded was in year 2005 with a value of 25,050 kg in 2005 and the lowest amount was at 857.6 kg in year 2007. The revenues obtained during this period showed an irregular profile, and that the costs per kg of product had low initial values, however, there was a significant rise towards the end of the period. The profile ranged from RM1 to RM60.73.
Sandalwood have been exported out and imported into the country. However, costs per kg of product differed between the export and import values. During the period, the costs differences were in the negative except in years 2006 and 2007. The figures gave an indication that the product was largely consumed locally.
