6.1.1.5 Sub-region: South-East Asia
The region has 10 independent countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Large amounts of raw materials were exported to these countries and their shares of imports were as in the Table 173 and Figure 225 below. Other importers were Indonesia (about 23%), Singapore (about 21%) and the other countries received less than 10% of the export. Major imports of Thailand from Malaysia were garlic, cinnamon and cinnamon tree flowers not crushed nor ground, seeds of coriander, ginger, other spices, pyrethrum in cut, crushed, or powdered form, other plants and parts of plants used primarily for perfumery and other industries, other vegetable products not elsewhere specified, other alkaloids of cinchona and their derivatives and salts and other than odoriferous alcohol preparation of a kind used for the manufacture of alcohol beverages. Indonesia also imported garlic, ginger, seeds of coriander, seeds of anise or badian, cloves, seeds of fennel, juniper and berries, other than odoriferous alcohol preparation used for the manufacture of alcohol beverages, other spices and other plants and parts of plants used primarily for the perfumery and other industries.
