Drug abuse and addiction is a serious growing Global concern as an alarming health and social problem. Majority of developing countries are the main sufferers from this problem due to their socioeconomic and health substandard situations which further complicate the issue. International and National organizations, governmental and non governmental are all putting efforts in order to combat this future threat that if not encountered properly and effectively, will infiict heavy burdens on mankind. Humanitarian aspects, legal and criminology dimensions, public health impacts, psychosocial variants affected by modern life style and mechanization etc are among factors that further add to the complexity of the problem. There exist many effective scientific and medical treatment measures to face some of the drug abuse and addiction problems yet the size and the speed by which this problem is growing highlights the vital role of preventive measures beside treatments and curative approaches. Deep understanding of drug abuse and addiction and categorizing their different applications in realistic atmosphere and based on sociocultural and medical critics are among tools that can help to tackle the problem. There is a growing need for the application of traditional and herbal medicine to take part in the program of facing drug abuse and addiction especially that synthetic molecules despite being very effective yet they may have their own detrimental effects.
