Siddha system is one of the oldest traditional systems of medicine, most popular among the oldest race of the world, Tamils. Developed from the experiences of the masses of the ancient ages and later incorporating Sankya and Buddhist philosophies of Tamils, for healthy living, Siddha practice and philosophy are unique in its approach. This healthcare system consists of preventive care healthy living practices and Therapeutics. Apart from many therapeutic formulations and medical practices, Siddha advocates many Functional foods, Nutraceuticals and practices for preventive healthcare. Harmonized with the culture of southern India, especially Tamils’, these values were carried by generations. Selection of functional food and life style according to the body constitution (Muththathu-Vali, Azhal Ayyam), age and their present and anticipated illnesses is the unique feature of this traditional system. It is a clear legitimacy and intriguing fact, that these practice helped a lot to reduce the incidence of the pressing Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) on those days. The quality of life they had in their elderly age with these practice were immensely good. The peculiarity of this system is, while treating the person, it always looks which type of person having the illness and not which type of illness the person has. Its Holistic.Though this system evaluated since antiquity, it caters the contemporary world’s necessitate. Modern Pharmaceutics based on reductionism and Siddha based on holism. To maintain the synergy and adhering the circadian rhythm are the paradigm of the Holistic approach of Siddha Herbal Therapeutics. This paper explains, How Siddha Concepts and Practices helps to lead a healthy life and its rationale.
