Two genus of marine algae i.e. Laurencia sp. and Hypnea sp. have been studied. Fresh samples were soaked in MeOH : CH2Cl2 (1:1) after being cleaned. Fractions that dissolved in CH2Cl2 have been separated by column chromatography using silica gel and eluted by increasing polarity using petroleum ether to EtOAc. Hypnea sp. resulted in two monoterpene which have been identified as 3-bromo-8-chloro-6-chloromethyl-2-methylocta-1,6-diene and 8-chloro-6-chloromethyl-3-methoxy-2-methylocta-1,6-diene, while Laurencia sp. resulted in a sesquiterpene which has been identified as 8-bromochamigra-l,ll(12)-diene-9-ol. All the halogen derivatives showed strong antibacterial properties.
