Sheau Chin Ing is the local name of the fruit of Rosa cymosa Tratt. (Rosaceae). In the study of antihepatotoxic principles of Taiwan folk medicines, the 50% ethanol extract of R. cymosa Tratt. exhibits a remarkable liver protective effect. In screening for Chinese medicinal herbs on antihepadnavirus effects with duck hepatitis B virus DNA polymerase as an indicator, the 50% ethanol extract of R. cymosa Tratt. has a significant effect. Bioassay-directed fraction for DHBV DNA polymerase inhibition constituents has furnished six substances, in which one, niga-ichigoside F2 showed a significant activity. The IC50 of niga-ichigoside F2 is 11µg/ml.
