Antiproliferative. Altholactone, Human Breast Cancer Cell Lines.


Altholactone exhibited an antiproliferative effect, inhibiting the proliferation of the hormone-dependent breast cancer cells, MCF-7 and T47D. The proliferation of hormone-independent breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231) and bovine kidney cells (MDBK) were not inhibited by altholactone. The effectiveness of altholactone seems to be dependent on the growth medium condition; medium containing FCS treated with dextran-coated charcoal (DCC) |DCC-FCS| and non-treated FCS |FCS|. Altholactone showed better inhibition on the proliferation of breast cancer cells in growth medium supplemented with DCC-FCS, compared to non-treated FCS.
