Goniothalamus uvaroides, Annonaceae, goniothalamin, acetoxygoniothalamin, goniotriol, velutinam.

Goniothalamus spp. are commonly used in traditional medicine to cure several diseases. Goniothalamus uvaroides is used widely as abortifaciem, to cure wounds, severe headache and muscle pain by local community in Sabah. Phytochemical studies on G. uvaroides resulted in goniothalamin, 5-acetoxygoniothalamin and goniotriol. Beside goniothalamin and it's derivatives two alkaloids have also been isolated from the roots of G. uvaroides. Based on spectroscopy information one of the alkaloids have been identified as velutinam (10-amino-8-hydroxy-3,4-dimethoxyphenanthrene-l-carboxylicacid lactam).
