How Chitosan interacts with Fat soluble vitamins

Interaction type: Interactions

Interaction rating: Study Supported

Since chitosan inhibits the absorption of fats, it is likely that it will inhibit the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins A, D, E, K and beta-carotene. In one study, animals that were administered high doses of chitosan for two weeks exhibited decreased mineral absorption (especially calcium) and reduced levels of serum vitamin E. Supplementation with the affected nutrients may be necessary. (1)

These drugs include vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, beta-carotene
