Herbal medicine regulation in Saudi Arabia was established in 1996 and there are laws established specifically for herbal medicines. There are presently no regulations regarding health claims on nutritional products.
Botanicals are regulated under a law specific to herbal medicines which classifies them into the following categories: medicines, otc medicines, self-medications, dietary supplements and health/functional foods. GMP regulations include those that are specific to botanical products plus those regulating the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products.
There is no post-marketing surveillance program in place.
