3.6.1.2 Analysis
The quantities of garlic for export showed an increase from the beginning of the period until year 2003 after which the amount dropped very low and remained there till year 2007. The reason for this drop may be due to the drop in demand for the product from the importing countries. The revenues obtained from the export trade followed the same pattern as that of the quantities being traded. The costs per unit kg of product during the period ranged from 83 cents to RM2.57 and, its graph exhibited irregularity and remained inside a wide band of cost range.
Exports of Garlic from Malaysia’s were seen to have been substantial during the obverved period of year 2000 to 2007 (See Tables 63, 64 and Figures 112, 113). The export and the import volumes of the product could have been the same and that Malaysia was only the transit point for the business. The positive differences in unit cost per kg of the export and import products ranged from 4 cents to RM1.29 during years 2000 to 2002, 2004 and 2007. Negative differences occurred during years 2003, 2005 and 2006. The figures indicate that the traders had committed the products to their clients earlier.
