2.3.1.2 Analysis
Garlic is imported for several purposes such as for culinary preparations, pharmaceutical ingredients as well as extracts. Extracts are utilized in the treatment of various ailments for example in inhibition of platelet aggregation.
Prices of imports have 2 peaks, one during 2001 to 2002 and the other during 2006. From the tables below, it is observed that the price fluctuated every year reaching its peak, in 2006 and sliding downwards in 2007. In terms of amount imported, the highest was in year 2006, which stood at 93.45 million at a value of RM231.526 million. The price per unit of the product is significantly low over the years ranging from RM 1.03 to RM 2.48, the highest being in 2006
