1. Market Development Grant (MDG)

a.         Objective

The scheme is to provide a matching grant to assist Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) undertake promotional activities for the development of export markets.

Companies can obtain a 50% reimbursable matching grant on the approved cost of the eligible activities. The grant is available for one or more of the eligible activities as listed in the schedule below.

Physical Event
i. Participation in International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions held in Malaysia/ Overseas Within 30 calendar days after the last date of event
ii. Participation in Trade & Investment Missions (TIM) or Export Acceleration Missions (EAM)
iii. Participation in International Conferences Held Overseas
iv. Listing fees in Supermarkets or Hypermarkets or Retail Centres or Boutique Outlets Located Overseas Within 30 calendar days after the first day of listing
v. International Certification for Exports Within 30 calendar days after certification approval date
Virtual Event
i. Participation in Virtual International Trade Fairs in Malaysia or Overseas Within 30 calendar days from the last date of the event
ii. Participation In Business to Business (B2B) Meetings Related to Virtual Trade Investment Missions and Export Acceleration Missions Within 30 calendar days from the last date of the promotional activity

e.         Scope of Funding

Participation in International Trade Fairs of Exhibitions held in Malaysia/Overseas – Physical Events

Events Not Eligible: Business-to-Consumer (B2C) or festival fairs or similar events.
• Participation fee or booth rental.
• Booth construction & enhancement.
• Air fare (maximum claim for 2 persons)
• Accommodation. (maximum claim for 2 rooms)  

Participation in International Trade Fairs or Exhibitions held in Malaysia/Overseas – Virtual Events

a) Virtual International Trade Fairs in Malaysia.
Organizer must have 1-year track record of successful virtual trade event; and
Organizer must have track record for physical event endorsed by MATRADE.
The above terms are not applicable for participation in MADANI Digital Trade Platform owned by MATRADE.
RM5,000 Eligible Events: Business-to-Business (B2B) events.

Events Not Eligible: Business-to-Consumer (B2C) or festival fairs or similar events.

Participation in Trade & Investment Missions (TIM) or Export Acceleration Missions (EAM) – Physical Events

• Air fare (maximum claim for 2 persons)

Listing fees for made in Malaysia Products in Supermarkets/Hypermarkets/Retail centers/Boutique Outlets located overseas

International Certification for Exports

ACTIVITY MAXIMUM GRANT AMOUNT DESCRIPTION EXPENSES COVERED
International Certification for Exports 30% of total certification cost not exceeding RM25,000 per application. • Procedure in which an accredited person or agency inspects the properties, qualities, qualifications or status of an organization goods or services, procedures, or processes in accordance with established requirements or standard.
• Applicable for new application only.  
• Internationally recognized certification.
• Certificate issued for short term usage (shipment purpose) is not eligible, e.g. Health Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate, Certificate of Origin. • All related invoices can be consolidated in one application.
• All activities related to the certification is eligible to claim such as:
i. HACCP;
ii. HALAL Certification;
iii. MS ISO; and
iv. Other international certifications including sustainability for export purposes only. Testing and Product sampling is not covered.

2. Brand Promotion Grant (BPG)

a.         Objectives

The objective of the Brand Promotion Grant (BPG) is to develop and promote the brand names owned by Malaysian companies as for products and services originating from Malaysia in the international market.

b.         Selection of Brands

Only brands that meet certain eligibility criteria and are specifically selected or approved for assistance by the Brand Grant Approval Committee will receive the Brand Promotion Grant. Evaluation of brands to be selected for the grant will be based on several considerations including:-

  • Branding strategy and plan.
  • Business and marketing plan.
  • Resources invested by the company on branding and its commitment to the branding programme.
  • Activities undertaken to promote the brand.
  • Trend in overall sales and exports over the past 3 years.
  • Market share in both local and overseas markets.
  • Potential for the brand to further expand in the international market.
  • How the brand will help Malaysia’s image as a supplier of quality products and services.

The grant will cover the cost of developing and promoting only one brand per company. Companies can apply for the grant for any of the following expenses involved in brand development and promotion:-

  • Branding/Marketing Strategy Consultancy (subject to maximum limit of not more than 10% of grant approval) such as:
    • Brand Strategy, creation and development
    • Marketing strategy and implementation
    • Media Strategy
    • Brand Communication Strategy
    • Brand Management System
    • Brand Manual & Information System
  • Brand Development
    • Logo design and redesign
    • Packaging design and redesign
    • Intellectual property matters, including registration
    • Trademark works for other targeted markets (excluding renewal of trademark and patent).
  • Brand Promotion
    • Customer relationship management system to monitor brand
    • Advertising and Promotion (maximum 50% of grant approval)
    • Enhancement of Brand Website (maximum grant RM50,000.00)
  • Brand Research
    • Brand Audit
    • Brand Tracking
