2.3.34.2 Analysis 

Prior to the year 2005, the quantity of imports of other alkaloids of Cinchona and their derivatives had been small ranging from 214 kg to 3,930 kg. However, in 2006, the amount shot up to 58,303 kg  however,  in  year 2007, the quantity dropped   to 5,500 kg. The total value of purchases also followed a similar trend (See Figures 68 & 69). The maximum total value for purchases was about RM14.090 million and the lowest was  at RM204,241. As an indicator of the price comparison per unit weight of product, the highest was at  RM3531.02 and the lowest value was at RM81.14.

Since quinine raw materials are imported   the price of the commodity is expected to fluctuate.  These products are turned into pharmaceutical drug productions. The Products are produced from quinidine gluconate,quinidine sulphate and quinine sulfate. Although Malaysia imports small quantities of the raw materials, it is able to export these Chinchona alkaloid products to many countries, such as the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
