A total of 115,886 products had been registered by 2005 of which 10,339 (8.7%) [2004 :(13.2%)] were prescription products 7,732(6.8%) [2004:9.7%)] OTC products 15,129(12.9%) [2004:17.4%)] traditional medicine; and 83,525(71.1%) [2004:60%)] cosmetics. This indicates that the registration of cosmetics had increased tremendously over the past two years as compared to 2003. By 2005, 83,525 cosmetic products had been registered by the Drug Control Authority whereas only 47,513 were registered by 2004.
In 2005, a total of 37,947 products had been registered compared to the previous year (2004) which was 42,311 products. For prescription products and cosmetics, the total number of products registered also showed a slight decrease as compared to year 2004. A breakdown of products registered between 2001 and 2005 is shown in Table 22.
