The educational system for T/CM in Myanmar consists of formal and informal structures, aiming to preserve traditional healing knowledge while integrating modern medicine advancements in recent years.
Accreditation for T/CM courses in Myanmar is not highly centralized or structured compared to some other countries. To enhance quality accreditation in traditional medicine education and medicinal practices, practitioners and institutions collaborate with international organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and Mekong region initiatives (1).
Organizations involved in this country’s course accreditation, as listed in the following databases:
- The Ministry of Health – https://www.mohs.gov.mm/
The ministry plays a key role in regulating and overseeing T/CM in Myanmar. While it is not a direct accreditation body, it establishes regulatory guidelines, education programs, and certification processes for traditional medicine practitioners.
- Department of Traditional Medicine – https://www.dtm.gov.mm/
The department operates under the MOH and is directly responsible for regulating and accrediting traditional medicine educational programs.
- Myanmar Medical Council – https://www.myanmarmedicalcouncil.org.mm/
The council is an independent body that oversees the registration and licensing of medical practitioners. It also accredits medical schools and institutions, ensuring their adherence to ethical standards and quality education requirements.
