Abstract

In this study, the anti-tumour promoting activity of rice and palm oil industrial wastes crude extracts against breast cancer cell line (MCF7) was investigated. The methanol and water extracts of both agriculture industrial wastes were tested using MTT assay. The most active extract that showed inhibition of the proliferation of breast cancer cells was the aqueous extract of rice mixture wastes. None of the palm oil industrial wastes showed signifiant anti-tumour promoting activity except for the methanol extract of oil palm leaf wastes. With respect to these results, several of the agriculture industrial wastes could be studied further for their potential to inhibit breast cancer cell proliferation.
