Abstract

The first phytochemical screening was carried out on crude extracts of two Rhizophora species, Rhizophora apiculata Blume (Bakau Minyak) and Rhizophora mucronata Lam. (Bakau Kurap), collected from Selangor. Parts of these plants (stem, leaf and flower) were soaked in hexane and methanol. In the screening of methanol crude extracts, all parts of both species contained alkaloids which gave strong positive reactions. The leaf crude extract gave positive reactions for flavonoid, terpenoid, phenol, saponin and alkaloids. However, stem and flower crude extracts of both species showed negative result for flavonoid and terpenoid, respectively.
